Brian joined the Bristol Spirit Lodge Circle in March 2007. After awhile he began to sit regularly within the cabinet, and gradually during that year activity, relating to physical mediumship, became apparent.

Early seance reports consisted of scribbled notes and spasmodic audio taped recordings. It wasn't until 2008 that regular reporting and digital recordings were made. These are offered here.

October 7th. Surprise Visit 2008.

Soft lighting conditions. 80 minute seance.

Mediums and sitters: Chris. Brian. Margaret. Sue.

This evening Brian came along for a surprise visit. We shared a peaceful evening together within the Lodge. As the music played and sitters relaxed within the atmosphere of the room, Brian reached an altered state of consciousness which enabled Lucas to come forward for a chat.

Finally Cheung Ly came forward for a short period. It was really good to hear from them all again.

Before the seance a row of five ping pong balls had been placed beneath Brian's chair. These are white balls and are positioned with care, having numbers clearly displayed on their upper side. Both Chris and Margaret, seated opposite, had noted that they were in a neat row, clearly seen by both of them to be unmoved throughout.

As Chris came to close the seance she turned to switch on the CD player (sited beside her). As she did so FC said clearly (through clair-audience) "You've taken your eye off the ball!" Chris turned and laughed as she saw that the balls had been scattered backwards beneath Brian's chair. This movement was in fact unseen by herself and unseen by weither of the other watchful witnesses. There was, we belive, no actual movement, in the way that movement would normally catch the eye. The re-positioning of the ping pong balls had occured within a about 5 seconds whilst Chris wasn't looking!
After close of seance Chris and Margaret examined at the balls closely and saw that the balls numbered 1,2 and 3 had been scattered back and 'switched around'. The ball numbered 5 remained in its original position but had been moved 45deg. The ball numbered 4 was in it's original position and unmoved.

After the seance held within the Lodge we all returned to the house where Brian used tarot cards to inspire a reading for Sue (who he had never met). This reading was appreciated and enjoyed by all.

A very interesting evening that made a welcome and unexpected change.

July 14th 2008. CIRCLE CLOSED

Brian has been sitting for physical mediumship within the cabinet for 18 months now. Although this is an exciting project for sitters to witness, it can cause isolation for the vessel being used by Spirit.

At this point in time Brian feels that his Spirit Team support his decision to take a break, so he is now taking a well earned rest.

We offer this partial record of evidential phenomena witnessed within the Spirits Aloud circle through Brian's mediumship. We hope that through gaining the awareness of the existence of continuing spirit consciousness after physical death, other people may move forward to seek to enable communication with the spirit world themselves.

Blackout conditions. 80 minute seance.

Physical medium: Brian (seated restrained by a waist tie within closed cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Paul. Margaret (each wearing glo tabs)

This evening was the first time that the Medium had been restrained within the new chair, which Chris had provided. The chair being of Parker Knoll type, which is substantial in both weight and size. The strong cotton fabric (karate belt) waist tie being secured by strong studs to the wooden arms and fastened across the Medium's waist and knotted by Paul in a fancy knot of his own design.

The evening began as usual. Within a few minutes of the opening prayer being spoken the first sounds of furniture removals was heard, as the chair was moved from the cabinet! Further crashes followed, with the chair (apparently) moving about three times.

As these noises subsided, there were sounds that we recognise as energy vibrations, like 'shaking' sounds. These being followed by familiar sounds relating to the development of direct voice, which were projected within the room. These varied in tone and volume, before settling to a spoken voice, as yet unidentified. As usual this voice sounded rather like Donald Duck, although the words were more clearly defined that they have been to date. In fact a two-way conversation was possible for a longer period than has previously been the case.

When this demonstration ended there were further noises from around the cabinet area, although we couldn't guess the cause or intention. Cheung Ly then came forward to communicate through the Medium using the more usual trance state. Cheung Ly discussed within our understanding, in response to questions from Margaret, that were related to lives of spirits from different worlds. Cheung Ly also spoke to Chris about the Medium's development and the new music that has been requested for the next stage of progression. Chris assured him that the music would be put in place at the vessel's next sitting. Cheung Ly then withdrew.

The next communicator was, unusually, Grandad Phil. He is unused to communicating and has still residual difficulties with breathing as a result of his physical condition upon passing. However, he introduced himself by making the sounds of a telephone ringing, which is how he used to amuse the Medium when a child. Grandad Phil told Chris that he would be supporting the Medium during the next stage in his development, which requires for a deeper trance state than has yet been achieved.

Finally, when Grandad Phil left, The Chief came through. He too spoke of the new music to be played and the progress intended. He explained too that there would be a period with less activity evident within the seances, whilst development was becoming enabled. Chris assured The Chief that we all understand and all support the Spirit team.

The Chief then spoke of the Medium needing to sit alternate weeks, so as not to become 'burned out'. Also that the Medium's expereince would in this way be more accessible to others within the Circle. It is Spirit's intention that others will progress and develop also. Again Chris assured The Chief that we all understand. We thanked them all for coming through, and the seance ended on a very positive note.

When the light was switched on it was seen that the Medium's chair was placed outside of the cabinet area, with the cabinet curtains remaining neatly closed behind it. The waist tie was still tied as Paul had tied it. Brian however was seated on a different chair at the side of the room!

Brian will sit again in a fortnight's time.

Blackout conditions. 75 minute seance.

Physical medium: Brian (seated restrained by a waist tie within closed cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Jon. Chris. Paul. Margaret. Michelle. Lynne. Emily (each wearing glo tabs)

As this was the first time that Emily had sat within a blackout seance here we asked her to tie the medium's waist tie firmly in place, which she did. Chris then taped masking tape around the knotted tie, and Emily wrote her name on this. This experiment hadn't actually been tried before.

As the prayer was being spoken, and before the lights were out, there were already sounds of activity within the cabinet. Soon after this many projected voice-like sounds were heard.
There was an even greater range of sounds than we have heard to date, although no clear conversation was apparent. We later learned that a new communicator is working with this part of the developmental work.

As the evening progressed the sitters were singing along to some of the songs, when there was a sudden loud crash (sounding rather as if someone had dumped a large sack of scrap metal) that caused everyone to jump! We all assumed that the chair, which is a metal framed sun lounger fixed in upright position, had been ejected from the cabinet into the room, as has happened often before. There was a period of quiet after this, before we heard the familiar tones of Cheung Ly with his cheerful "Good evening". He then asked for the red light to be put on. This was in consideration for the new sitter Emily who, as he said, may have been somewhat alarmed by the crashing sounds heard within the seance. With the light on we could all see that Brian was in fact seated cross-legged in the middle of the room with no chair in sight!

Cheung Ly explained the meaning of 'the circle', from the perspective of a seance, as being representative of continuing life. He spoke of the dedication of those who sit in such a circle being valued by those on both sides due to the resulting projection of positive energy. All sitters being happy and joyful of mind, none being forced to sit, but each coming week after week with a positive attitude and interest. He said that those who sit with a positive attitude project positive energy. This is valuable within this world. He explained that we are energy, this energy held within our bodies, and through energy we connect with others who have energy. We are like TV and radio receivers. Spirit are energy and can connect with us for the good, through our projection of positive energy.

Chris commented on the voice-like sounds heard earlier and asked about the progress of the voice channel development. Cheung Ly explained that this is currently projected sound, that is bypassing the voice box. He said that alongside this the vessel hears voices independently of himself, which he will gradually become accustomed to. Cheung Ly also spoke of the development of those within the spirit world. They are experimenting with many forms of energy and vibration. They hope to enable phenomena that has not been seen before in controlled conditions. Spirit beings have already been seen many times within the light within our world, which proves that this is possible to attain. Without baffling us with quantum physics, he instead spoke of the medium's suspended state of consciousness as has been witnessed this evening. After all, the medium was projected from the cabinet with much violent sound heard, yet was totally unhurt and unaware of his own transport. This was a practical demonstration that not all things are yet understood and all is not black and white.

When Cheung Ly had departed The Chief came forward. The Chief spoke of a new potential communicator having been allowed through as part of their learning. Then, in response to a question by Jon, The Chief explained about a comment made earlier by Brian, in that he had missed ten minutes of time during the day. The Chief explained that it is a little like the vessel being a computer, it is necessary to update, re-set and to switch off and back on again sometimes. He assured us that the vessel would be kept safe during these times.

Chris asked The Chief if the team have all that they need. It was advised that the vessel might be asked to supply his own music, as the team will guide him to his choice and they know what is best. From our experience (and with FC's guidance) we feel it likely that at this time the spirit team are working towards leading Brian into a deeper form of suspended state as part of further development.

As the room fell into silenece, The Chief commented that there are guides with all sitters, and that he had instructed one such guide to step back. He informed us of the need to maintain control, and visiting energies but respect that HE is in charge! He subsequently remarked that Emily has a strong guide. He spoke of her need to set controls so as to prevent her own exhaustion. He said that when she becomes more in tune with things it will help those within the spirit world, and she will have time left 'for herself' also. Jon asked about methods of 'closing down' and The Chief offered several suggestions. Emily asked questions about her own developmental process and received further guidance in this regard. Chris has since offered to meet with Emily at another time in order to explore these matters further.

Finally after close of seance when we looked inside the closed cabinet, the medium's chair was inside with the waist tie still knotted and the signed tape still intact.

An amazing seance. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

May 6th

The evening began with sitters remaining silent for the first few songs played, as this has been the spirit team's request. We understand that this period of time allows for energies to settle within the room and gives time for the Medium to relax into trance state.

Unusually upon this occasion there were few sounds heard from the cabinet area for an extended period of time. Sitters chatted together and 'sang' to music played upon the CD player for at least 30 minutes, and still there was no apparent activity within the cabinet, aside from the bells tinkling upon the medium's chair to reassure us that he hadn't gone home!

Just as we were feeling a little bored, sounds relating to the development of direct voice were demonstrated. These were followed by the crashing of the medium's chair as it was ejected forcefully from the cabinet area out into the room, sending the seance trumpet hurtling across the room to land upon Lynne's foot in the process! The chair is a new one, of sun-lounger type, and not easily moved by lifting, particularly with a man seated upon it.

When this activity ended and sitters had calmed down, Cheung Ly announced his arrival. Always welcome, as an interesting character, Cheung Ly spoke to us and answered questions posed by Margaret and by Jon. When Chueng Ly left us there was another short period of quiet before The Chief came forward and he too answered questions and chatted to sitters.

Upon close of seance Brian was found to be still seated and tied into his chair outside of the cabinet area.

An interesting evening, with developmental progress being made and various processes explained by the two communicators. The recording of this seance may offer some interesting clips for upload, we will attend to this as soon as we can.

Blackout conditions. 100 minute seance.

Physical Medium: Brian (Seated in closed cabinet with waist tie restraint)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Jon. Paul. Lynne. Margaret. Michelle. (each wearing glo-tabs)

The evening began with the familiar sounds of the chair being rocked with the bells jingling beneath. There was then an extended period of calm and quiet. Sitters sang to the music playing on the CD and occasionally the chair rocked in time to this, but soon calm silence returned.

Then, just as sitters were all calmly dozing, the chair crashed out of the cabinet and made everyone jump!

Soon the gentle tones of Cheung Ly were heard in greeting. This was communication enabled through trance. Chris asked Cheung Ly whether the spirit team require anything to assist their work. In response he asked that the Medium's chair be replaced with the one he had been offered previously, but that was not suitable at that time. Chris agreed to provide this. Cheung Ly then responded to questions offered by Jon. *Jon has taken a copy of the recording of this evening's seance and will, as soon as he has the time, select parts of this for presentation as voice files.

Following Cheung Ly's departure The Chief came forward and spoke shortly with us, again answering some questions, before taking his departure, asking for us to count backwards from 20 before putting the red light on.

At close of seance we saw that Brian was still seated in his chair, still restrained by his waist tie. The chair was near the centre of the room, not within the cabinet. Nothing else appeared to have been moved.

Another interesting evening. Clearly the spirit team are moving forward in some way that we don't yet understand. We are used to the fact that we have a few evenings of apparent inactivity, before new phenomena occurs and are looking forward as always to 'whatever is next'.

NOTE: Two sitters have contacted me about phenomena they individually felt within this seance.

Michelle reported that something tapped her knee. She asked the sitters either side of her if they had done this, and both denied it. Both sitters seated beside Michelle have been proven totally honest and reliable witnesses.

Jon reported: "Last night, I sat in my chair with empty places either side of me, completely out of reach of anyone else, when my trainer shoe (I believe it to have been) was picked up and the base of my chair was give a single but firm 'tap'. Solid enough for me to both feel it and hear it. Then 10 seconds later my chair was given a solid 'shake'. It felt as if someone had a hold of the cross member under between the legs and given it a quick 'jiggle'. There were a couple of smaller judders and then it was over". Jon also says that the sound of his chair being tapped was recognisable to him on the seance recording.

Blackout conditions. 70 minute seance.

Physical medium: Brian (restrained by waist tie within closed cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Tracey. Alan. Lynne.

Before the seance Chris had fastened two rubber rings to the arms of the medium's chair, using cable ties. These rings and ties were hidden by the cushion on the medium's chair. He was totally unaware of their presence.

The seance began as usual, with sounds heard from within the cabinet almost from the start. The chair was rocked, the bells fastened on the cross bar beneath the chair were repeatedly heard. Part of the time the chair appeared to be rocking in time with the music being played, particularly when sitters were singing along.

The medium's chair seemed to crash out of the cabinet at one point, but later within the seance the same crashing was heard, so it is difficult to make a judgement on what was actually happening. All we knew was that much activity was present and that whatever the spirit team were doing was very noisy!

The sounds of direct voice development were wide ranging and closer to the sounds of 'real voice' than have been apparent to date. On this occasion no clear words were spoken and we missed the familiar tone of Donald Duck! Clearly progress is being made however, as we realise that Donald is only a cartoon character (but please don't tell the chilcren this)!

The medium enabled channelled communication from Cheung Ly towards the end of the evening. Cheung Ly answered questions from Chris and chatted socially with the other sitters. Soon after Cheung Ly departed The Chief's familiar laugh was heard and he came forward to speak with everyone. As he made his departure he mentioned that Tracey was within an altered state of consciousness and asked Chris to ensure that she was 'back' before turning the red light on.

At close of seance we saw that Brian was seated on the floor in the centre of the room. His chair was behind him, standing in front of the cabinet. One of the rubber rings was laying beside Alan's foot, the cable tie was intact, but removed from the chair and laid on the floor nearby.

Once again, a most enjoyable and interesting evening.

Blackout conditions. 80 Minute séance.

Physical medium: Brian (restrained within the closed cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Paul. Lynne. Michelle. Margaret. Alan (each wearing glo tabs)

During the previous séance The Chief had suggested that, within the next séance, we place the Scole dome upon the table in the West corner of the room, with a container of water in the opposite East corner. Chris’s chair is sited in the East corner, so we placed the water underneath this.

It is the policy of the Circle to carry out any guidance offered by the Spirit Teams here. We do this without question. In this way we remain open minded towards any demonstration that might be witnessed as a result, whilst ensuring that no event is influenced in any way by group thought-transference.

The séance began a little later than usual and in consequence the Spirit sounds within the cabinet were apparent before the opening prayer was spoken and the light extinguished.

Very soon into the seance it was apparent that both Paul and Michelle were 'fading in and out' of awareness. As sounds within the cabinet continued, of cable ties snapping and the chair rocking and so forth, the rest of the sitters proceeded to sing in order to raise the energy within the room. Very soon, within the cabinet area, the familiar tone of 'Mr.Punch' or ET were heard to greet us for a short time amongst other variations of sound related to the development of direct voice communication.

Suddenly amongst these noises Lynne reacted to a rubber ring (ejected from the cabinet) hit her leg, before 'running along the row' knocking Margaret and then Chris. Shortly afterwards several loud crashes were heard as the chair came out of the cabinet and into the room. Never a quiet moment in fact!

When things had settled Cheung Ly came forward to chat (Brian was brought back to a slightly lighter trance state to enable this) and to answer some questions. Cheung Ly had during previous seances, been difficult to hear. This evening however he was heard by all those present.

Following Cheung Ly there was a short pause before The Chief's presence became apparent. He too, in jovial mood, chatted and answered various questions. When asked whether the Team had found the Scole dome useful, he responded to say that it was worthy of further experimentation. It was therefore agreed that it should be similarly placed during future seances.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

After Alan had fastened the customary restraints we settled down to relax quietly whilst the first four songs were played. Spirit however had other ideas! The Medium's chair was shaken violently almost as soon as the lights were extinguished. The bells which are fastened to the base of the chair were heard to jingle as the chair rocked back and forth for several minutes. The chair was then apparently vibrated and the two cable ties were heard to snap. Further rocking and jingling continued through the whole of this 'quiet' period. Finally to break the peace further two loud "Boo!" calls made us jump!

This was followed by sounds related to the development of direct voice came forward. These were extensive in depth, tone and variety, with a good rate of projection into the room. Then a voice clearly said "Hello" and sitters responded to socialise with the non-specific communicator. Light-hearted communication continued for some time, during which he answered some questions about the voice box and about the progress being made.

We then returned to singing for awhile, whilst further sound-channel development continued in accompaniment. Some of these sounds were certainly strange and unlike those made by the human voice.

Gradually the background sounds ended and our singing continued uninterrupted....until a sudden very loud crash was indicative of the Medium's chair being ejected into the room!

Soon afterwards the familiar tones of The Chief's laughter was heard (the Medium was brought back to a slightly lighter trance state for this). The Chief proceeded to answer general questions from sitters before withdrawing to indicate the end of the seance. As is usual, one further song was then played before Chris moves to switch the red light on.

At the end of this song Chris, as usual, asked Spirit to knock if it wasn't safe for her to switch the red light on. Immediately a loud knock was heard. So a second song was played, by which time it was apparent that Brian was 'back with us'.

Brian's chair was sited outside of the cabinet. His two ankle restraints were snapped, but his two wrist ties remained intact. The waist tie was still tied in the same manner that Alan had fastened it.

Clear progress is being made. Another interesting evening!

March 11th 2008

Blackout conditions. 80 minutes seance.

Physical Medium: Brian (restrained in closed cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris.Paul.Michelle. Alan. Rachel.Lynne (each wearing glo tabs).

Rachel, a newcomer, was responsible for securing the medium into his chair. This included tying a complex knot at his waist.

The seance began as usual, with the sitters seated quietly for the duration of four songs. During the first two of these there were sounds of the cable ties being snapped, and the chair rocking, with the bells beneath the chair being heard several times.

Following this period sitters sang to the music played on the CD player. Whilst we sang, further sounds were heard coming from the cabinet area. This time it was apparent that direct voice experimentation was taking place. After a short time a voice spoke, first saying "Good evening", which was followed by two-way conversation. Chris asked for information regarding the direct voice formulation. Our communicator told us that the voice box is still being used within the medium's body, but is also partially external. It is intended for the creative energy to be of a universal type, which is a lot safer than using ectoplasm....however...this is still at the experimental stage. Further questions were asked and informative response given before this communicator withdrew. It was mentioned later by several sitters that the sound of direct voice came from 'high up', as of a standing person.

After a short pause, with the sitters again singing in order to raise the energy, the familiar laughter of The Chief was heard. As is customary here, the medium was 'brought back' so as to enable trance communication at this stage. The Chief answered many questions offered by sitters. One such question related to the soul and spirit of animals, and whether these both exist and whether an animal 'progresses' in the same way as human life forms do. The answer, although lengthy and divergent due to added enquiries, clearly confirmed that animals do have a spirit and soul.

When The Chief departed we sat quietly, with music playing, until the medium himself was heard. Chris then turned on the light and we all saw that the medium's chair was standing outside of the cabinet area. The medium himself was seated on the floor within the closed cabinet, with a cushion placed behind him. The waist tie, still attached to the chair, was later examined by Rachel and she said that the knot closest to the medium's body was changed, although the knot placed afterwards was as she had tied it. The four cable ties, that had secured the medium's wrists and ankles to the chair, were all either broken or pulled through. Chris had secured a rubber ring to the chair arm with a cable tie....and this ring had been twisted to fasten around the end of the chair arm.

Another very interesting seance!

Blackout conditions. 65 minute seance.

Physical Medium: Brian (restrained in closed cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Michelle. Lynne. Alan. Jon (each wearing glo tabs)

Following advice from FC (spirit guide) Jon was seated in the north corner. The other sitters were seated in pairs on either side of the room.The seance began with sounds of the chair creaking and rocking. The bells were also heard (these are attached to the base of the chair). Very soon too sounds relating to the experimental development of the voice box were heard. The range of sounds were exceptionally wide, as were the volume, projection, depth and pitch. The sounds recorded resemble those created by a budgie and move on to those typical of a steam train! The demonstration was interesting, fascinating. Spoken words were heard and we responded to these. They sounded, like last time, rather like Mr Punch.

Chris asked if the communicator has a name and received the reply "Everyone is called something, my dear." After this for a short time all was quiet.

Just when we thought all activity had stopped. The medium's chair suddenly crashed into the room and made everyone jump!Shortly after this The Chief's familiar laugh was heard and we welcomed his communication (through trance). In response to Chris's question he explained that the voice box was being created from a blend of universal energy and ectoplasm. That the voice box would enable an extended range of sounds to be used. That it would become used around the room, in many places. Also in response to questions he replied that the voice we'd heard speaking was from an entity, that many will be trying to use this voice box during the developmental stages. An extended Spirit Team would gradually become formed.The Chief then asked if we would like to try something new. We all agreed whole heartedly!

Chris was then asked to switch the red light on at a low setting, and when this was set correctly The Chief told us that he would show us how the restraining cable ties are usually removed.The cable tie closest to Chris was quite clearly seen by herself and Lynne. The cable tie gradually stretched, and appeared to be elastic. After a short time the cable tie came apart, as if pulled through, and the medium's arm was raised to show that it was set free. Others in the room could also see this.

After the seance it was noted that the cable tie was curved in shape (whereas a tie would normally spring out straight when released) as if the structure had been manipulated.It was also noted that a smell (best decribed as similar to that associated with a high voltage electrical discharge) was attached to the tie for a short time afterwards.The red light was then extinguished at The Chief's request before one further song was played, and the seance ended.

NOTE: Two sitters (Jon and Alan) felt that they had seen lights towards the front of the cabinet area during this seance. Both considered these to be subjective visions....but as both have reported these they must be regarded as worthy of note.
